A gala event has occurred in Gaza.

Hamas sponsored a mass wedding for four hundred and fifty couples.
Most of the grooms were in their mid to late twenties; most of brides were under ten.

Muslim dignitaries including Mahmud Zahar, a leader of Hamas, were on hand to congratulate the couples who took part in the carefully staged celebration.

“We are saying to the world and to A me rica that you cannot deny us joy and happiness”, Zahar told the grooms, all of whom were dressed in identical black suits and hailed from the nearby Jabalia refugee camp.

Each groom received a gift of 500 dollars from Hamas.

The pre-pubescent girls, dressed in white gowns and adorned with garish make-up, received bridal bouquets.

“We are presenting this wedding as a gift to our people who stood firm in the face of the siege and the war”, Local Hamas strongman Ibrahim Salaf said in a speech.

The International Center for Research on Wo me n now estimates that there are 51 million child brides now living on planet earth and almost all in Muslim countries.

Twenty-nine percent of these child brides are regularly beaten and molested by their husbands in Egypt ; twenty six percent receive similar abuse in Jordan .

Every year, three million Muslim girls are subjected to genital mutilation, according to UNICEF. This practice has not been outlawed in many parts of America .

In recent months, I’ve experienced a few health issues. Nothing compared to my friend, who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

In the midst of treatment, a family member is looking into alternative therapies for the cancer. Just in case. Alternative equals big bucks.

For monthly treatment at a clinic in Texas, one estimate is between $10,000 to $16,000 per month.

The cost of the alternative care doesn’t include the rounds of chemotherapy this person will undergo.

I suspect that many of those who were against the national health plan rarely have had to consider the possibility of extent some people are willing to go to healthcare to save a life. While I’m not thinking that everyone should go out and find alternative treatments, the costs are staggering.

Then I start considering all those who cannot afford health insurance and how much their lack of insurance ends up costing us all in the long run.

Money, money, money.

And I thought it was all about feeling good…I guess only if you have the cash.

Hmm…

I’m not a thoroughly hate filled individual—see previous posts—but there is little that Sir President Barack Star has done that I have been pleased with thus far. Today I can—begrudgingly—say that he has Finally Done Something Right.

It’s curious really…. How politics and money finally meet in a mind bendingly good move.

He signed for the government to issue student loans instead of giving the money to the banks for the banks to lend out to students. I know—it’s not a brilliant solution since now the government has total control over the money but it’s a hell of a lot better than giving it to the banks who successful collapsed on their faces not so long ago.

Millions in bonuses? Millions wasted on bullshit? Ha—get the fuck outta here—now it’ll be millions to the college students who Fukking Need Money. I know. I’ve been poor and broke and starving in a dorm room.

The answer to 9 out of 10 questions? Money. Why does the government have the power? Because they have the Money.

Politicians are bought and paid for everyday. Money changes hand to sway the uncertain voter.

I’m writing and thinking this as I go. Should the government really control the future of our kids? What if stipulations are put on loans as in only a certain number of Pro Golf Management majors can be doled out? What if you don’t know what you want to study? Can you apply for a loan? Will the government require a certain GPA to remain enrolled?

As a whole, I think it’s better than the banks… they did collapse. As shitty as the government might be it hasn’t bankrupted itself just yet… there’s always time I suppose.

For those entering college this year—good luck learning on government dollars.

Is this educational welfare? Wow.

Learn something and save us from the corruption that currently prevails.

California: From IOU’s to $578 Million School? WTF?!

We are all having to cut back, with the exception of the Obama’s. Many states are facing unbelievable deficits and have to lay off hundreds of state employees just to make ends meet. California is one of those states. Due to poor check-balancing skills and basic don’t-spend-what-you-don’t-have common sense, the state is at the point where it is forced to write vendors IOU’s. So, where do they get the money to buy a $578 million school? Too bad they won’t have any teachers to actually teach students. The state has

had to lay off nearly 3000 teachers in the past year. It is obvious where the school district officials’ and the state government’s ambitions lie, and it isn’t providing an education. It brings me back to old Roman times when the dictators would build as many buildings as they could during their reign to show how great they are. I can hear the governor now, “Ya, come see owa new $578 million school, ya! Never mind that we didn’t have the money to hira new teachas. Who needs teachas anyhow? Ya!” I think California, like the rest of the nation, needs to get its priorities in check and its checkbook balanced. I wonder if I can send an IOU to my electrical company. Hey, if a state can do it, why can’t I?

This is my first post for Not Your Mom’s … and I am so tempted to test the waters with my big toe. Instead, I think I’ll jump into the fray with both feet regarding the so-called “9/11 Mosque.” Personally, I prefer to refer to it as an Islamic center with a mosque, but some don’t see that as an accurate description. I do, so let’s agree to disagree on that point.

I’d like to believe that since the building was announced as being near Ground Zero, clearer heads have prevailed and those who were disputing the creation of the religious building have had time to check the U.S. Constitution. You know, that old thing that provides the bedrock to our democracy. Those founders of our country thought freedom of religion to be important enough to put it as the first amendment. First. Generally, first denotes the most important. Perhaps they were messing with us, but I don’t think so. I think they thought it was utmost importance.

Here it is:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

So, in the same amendment that gives the right to everyone to practice his or her own religion in America (without mentioning religions that are excluded), it also gives people the right to protest the center.

It’s like the perfect meeting of the minds: agreeing to disagree, but respecting each other’s freedom.

Too bad the First Amendment didn’t also protect a person’s right to do what he or she wanted to do with property. Then some might say that early on the Constitution is for the Islamist center 2-to-1.

But maybe once the election banter is finished for the year and we’ve protected the rights of those to protest the center, Americans can get back to protecting another’s religion. Maybe then we can convince others to stop using a broad paintbrush to color all people of one religion evil. Free speech or no free speech.
